From Zero to One, Igniting the Light of Intervention
Dr. Gao-Jun Teng pioneered interventional therapies for lung and liver cancers, marking the dawn of minimally invasive treatments for solid tumors.
A Leading Figure in Interventional Medicine in China, as well as a world-renowned interventional radiologist.
Under his leadership, our center hosts major platforms including the National Quality Control Center of Comprehensive Interventional Therapy, the State Key Laboratory of Digital Medical Engineering, and the National Innovation Platform for Medical Engineering Education Integration (NMEE).
The center consists of 6 Angio-ORs, equipped with state-of-the-art imaging modalities, with 106 dedicated inpatient beds in the department, 31 physicians and over 10 PhD PIs in a big lab. Over 10,000 procedures are annually performed covering all vascular and non-vascular interventional procedures except cardiology. Dr. Gao-Jun Teng is one of the pioneers of IR in China and hold a long-term leadership in the national IR societies, with a long-sheet CV with over 600 publications including a lot of innovative devices and procedures. His clinical and academic achievements have been widely recognized by most esteemed IR societies, including the SIR 2017 Gold Medal (USA), CIRSE 2015 Distinguished Fellow recognition (Europe), and APSCVIR 2019 Gold Medal (Asia-Pacific). He is currently Chair of Chinese College of Interventionalists, founder Chair of International Society of Multidisciplinary Interventional Oncology (ISMIO), and founder Editor-in-Chief, EngMedicine.
Since the 1980s, we have pioneered over 10 groundbreaking interventional procedures:
World's First iodine-125 radioactive stents for esophageal and bile duct cancers, improving outcomes for patients with advanced cancer;
Global pioneer in endovascular denervation for diabetes and cancer pain, expanding options beyond conventional treatment;
National Trailblazer in vertebroplasty, aortic dissection repair, and Y-90 precision radiotherapy, advancing minimally invasive care.
Across oncology, vascular disease, and spinal disorders, we are committed to "minimizing invasive, maximizing outcomes", shaping the future of interventional medicine through innovation.
Comprehensive Interventional and Multidisciplinary Care for Primary and Advanced Liver Malignancies
Specialized Interventional and Precision Therapies for Complex Biliary Malignancies
Advanced, Minimally Invasive, and Multidisciplinary Approaches to Esophageal Malignancies
Rapid-Response Endovascular and Hybrid Management of Acute and Chronic Aortic Dissection
Comprehensive Endovascular and Limb-Salvage Therapies for Peripheral Vascular Disease
Interventional and Multidisciplinary Care for Cerebrovascular and Complex Neurological Conditions
Targeted Interventional Management of Acute and Refractory Hemorrhagic Conditions
Initiated the largest interventional therapies-based comprehensive Cohort on Liver Cancer in the world, which have outputted over dozen of publications leading update or change of clinical guidelines.
Leveraging nationally recognized research laboratories, leading clinical specialty programs, and integrated innovation platforms, we have built a leading position in interventional medicine in China.
Innovation and Breakthroughs
We have published 500+ papers in leading international journals, including The Lancet, Nature, and the Science family of journals, contributing to new standards in interventional medicine.
With 40+ invention patents, our research directly translates to clinical solutions, supporting the industrialization of domestically developed innovative medical devices.
As a renowned interventional center in China and internationally, the center has spearheaded the development of international and national guidelines, standards, and consensus documents for interventional diagnosis and treatment. Boasting an eminent reputation domestically and internationally, the center has provided various professional training program for over 3,000 medical practitioners from across the globe so far.
The center has graduated over 800 Master and Ph.D. holders, and around 1000 fellows and residents.

Completed Program
This completed 12-month international advanced training program was jointly established by the Center of Interventional Radiology and Vascular Surgery at Zhongda Hospital, Southeast University, and the Ministry of Health of Indonesia. Implemented under the China-Indonesia health cooperation framework, the program ran from April 2025 to April 2026 in Nanjing and trained four Indonesian neurointerventional physicians: Eudon Muliawan, Neysa Azalia Efrimaisa, Fatmawati, and Abdul Wahab Rasyid.
